Can you help us expand and diversify the Green Squirrel board of directors? Our small social enterprise is at an exciting period of growth and we are looking for new non-executive board members to join our team and help us make a positive impact in our local communities and beyond.

As we look to expand our work and embark on new projects we’re particularly interested in recruiting new Directors with specific skills in financial and/ or business management. We particularly welcome disabled applicants and those from an ethnic minority as they are underrepresented in our organisation at present.

Skills and experience: We’re currently looking to increase the level of financial and business/ entrepreneurial skills and experience in our group of directors. We are therefore seeking someone with some or all of the following experience.

Financial skills and experience
1. A knowledge of financial accounting and reporting procedures.
2. The ability to communicate financial information to those who may have little or no financial background.
3. Experience of writing and reviewing financial procedures and cash flow forecasts appropriate to a small nonprofit.
Business/ entrepreneurial skills and experience
1. Experience of developing and implementing business ideas that generate income.
2. An understanding of diverse business processes and strategy development appropriate to a small non profit.
3. Ability to create networking opportunities and build corporate working relationships.

Time commitment: Directors are expected to attend all board meetings. These usually take place quarterly, with additional meetings arranged if required. It may be necessary to allow time to familiarise yourself with reports or other details ahead of these meetings, and to participate in telephone/email discussions between meetings.

Location: We do not require that all our directors are based in Cardiff. We are willing to have virtual directors meetings and communicate digitally with our board members. We welcome applicants from across the UK.

The key responsibilities of this role are:To discharge legal duties of Directors: working to ensure that Green Squirrel is run efficiently, with all due reference to legal requirements and the long-term strategy.

To help facilitate strategic decisions by the Executive Directors: review and set strategic goals, helping the company to grow and support more organisations.

To offer expertise. To be available for advice and enquiries on an occasional ad hoc basis.

To attend and contribute to our AGM and three additional annual board meetings.

To represent the interests of Green Squirrel beneficiaries, holding the organisation accountable for taking all decisions for the benefit of our community.

To act as an advocate for the CIC, including through professional and/or personal networks.

Directors are encouraged to take on additional responsibilities, matched with their knowledge, skills, experience and interests, as their time allows - for example, joining working groups associated with specific projects or contributing to the creation of policies.
