We are very excited to announce our NEW range of workshops for 2014! We have teamed up with Free Range Learning and have brought together a fantastic selection of knowlegable and skilled tutors to deliver this unique range of practical workshops right here in the centre of Cardiff.

Introduction to willow work - Saturday 29th March

Try your hand at weaving with willow. In this hands-on workshop you will learn about the properties of willow as a plant and it's traditional and contemporary uses, explore some basic techniques to get you started and create your own willow decorations to take home for your house or garden. Living willow structures - Saturday 12th April

Create a beautiful living willow structure with us in this full day practical workshop. You will come away with the skills to build your own willow den, arch or tunnel at home, at school or in a community space.

Location: The Court School, Cardiff.

Caring for ex-battery hens - Saturday 26th April

This chicken keeping workshop for beginners will introduce you to the basics of housing, feeding and caring for your hens with a focus on the particular needs of re-homed battery hens.

Urban growing for small spaces - Saturday 3rd May

Whether you've got a patio, a window box or just a fence come and try some practical and fun solutions to growing your own in the tiniest urban spaces.

This session is complimented well by our Vermiculture & backyard composting workshop which follows in the afternoon. Book both to receive a £5 discount!

Urban natural bee keeping - Saturday 5th July

In this half day workshop you will learn how to provide a home for a colony of honey bees, using simple, natural techniques. Whether considering bee keeping in an urban or rural environment this workshop will equip you with the knowledge you need to get started.

This session is complimented well by the Gardening for Wildlife workshop which follows in the afternoon. Book both to receive a £5 discount!

Edible mushroom growing - Saturday 9th August

This one day course will take a look at the fascinating world of fungi, introducing key concepts in their biology and ecology, and then demonstrating how we can cultivate and integrate them in our gardens. You will leave with the knowledge and skills to start growing mushrooms at home as well as your own mushroom log.

Family food forage - Saturday 6th September

In this family friendly workshop you will join us on a wild food forage in Bute Park. You and your family will learn about the wild food available in late summer and autumn and have fun foraging for wild edibles.

There will also be a picnic in the park at 12.30. You can bring along your own food and join us in tasting some of the wild food we have foraged and prepared.
